There's so much information about ants on this site that I can't even put a dent in it. But the videos are just absolutely amazing to watch. Especially the one where the ants link their legs to effectively create a floating lifeboat to transport their queen and her young to new land amidst a flood. It's simply amazing.

Travel Alaska - Official State of Alaska Travel & Vacation Information

The photos alone on this website will blow you away. Talking about the great wide open! Wow, I could spend an hour just browsing photos on this site and trying to digest the beauty. It is incredible. I can just imagine myself there, breathing in deeply to let the fresh air completely fill every cell in my body. WOW. What else is there to say? Except, where do I book my flight to Alaska? This site has nothing in it for me; I don't have any connection to it at all; it is just Alaska's official travel site and the pictures are absolutely breathtaking. That's all, so I am passing on the information so more people can enjoy the pictures, even if you can't go there. It's more than just eye candy. It's eye feasting.

    About.com: Need. Know. Accomplish.

Okay, this has to be one of the very best sites out there to learn almost anything you want to know about almost anything and how to do or accomplish almost anything you can almost think of! Did that make any sense at all? Well, it doesn't matter. Just go to About.com and see what I mean. Some of my best remedies have come from this site. I have taught myself how to do a score of new things through this site, and it has provided me with some of the best answers to questions that you can possibly imagine. So go. Learn. Have fun.

    2010 thoughts

Well I have spent some time thinking about things that have happened over the last year and things I want to be different for the new year. You can read some of my thoughts here. Maybe that will give you some ideas to get your 2011 list of goals and accomplishments started. It is a really good exercise to look back on the previous year and think deeply about what has transpired, what your decisions were and how you might want to do things differently in the future in order to get a different result. That's what progressing is all about. Are you a better person last year than the year before? Hopefully yes. If not, then you are the one who needs to do something about it.

    Amphibians

Okay, I love the color blue. And this color against the green of the leaves is absolutely breathtaking. But come on...have you ever heard of a blue frog? I knew there was yellow, green, red, brown etc. but not blue. And then of course the blue is not just an anything blue, but it has to be the most brilliant blue I have ever seen, with different shades to contrast even more. Just spectacular!

    Monarch Butterfly Life Stages

Check out this website I found at monarch-butterfly.info

Well I was hoping that the beautiful picture of the monarch butterfly would bookmark as well as the name of the site, but since it didn't I guess you will have to go there to view it. That's a disappointment. Anyway, the picture is worth the time to go find it not just for the butterfly itself, but also for the outrageously orange color of the flower it has landed on.

Educators have long known that the arts can contribute to student academic success and emotional well being. The ancient art of storytelling is especially well-suited for student exploration. As a folk art, storytelling is accessible to all ages and abilities. No special equipment beyond the imagination and the power of listening and speaking is needed to create artistic images. As a learning tool, storytelling can encourage students to explore their unique expressiveness and can heighten a student's ability to communicate thoughts and feelings in an articulate, lucid manner. These benefits transcend the art experience to support daily life skills. In our fast-paced, media-driven world, storytelling can be a nurturing way to remind children that their spoken words are powerful, that listening is important, and that clear communication between people is an art. [and there's more...]

    Why Storytelling? More Reasons...

    Gaining Verbal Skills
Becoming verbally proficient can contribute to a student's ability to resolve interpersonal conflict nonviolently. Negotiation, discussion, and tact are peacemaking skills. Being able to lucidly express one's thoughts and feelings is important for a child's safety. Clear communication is the first step to being able to ask for help when it is needed.

    Imagination
Both telling a story and listening to a well-told tale encourages students to use their imaginations. Developing the imagination can empower students to consider new and inventive ideas. Developing the imagination can contribute to self-confidence and personal motivation as students envision themselves competent and able to accomplish their hopes and dreams.

    Passing On Wisdom
Storytelling based on traditional folktales is a gentle way to guide young people toward constructive personal values by presenting imaginative situations in which the outcome of both wise and unwise actions and decisions can be seen.

Storytelling is an art, or craft if you prefer, which is a great tool to be used by teachers, professional speakers (referring to a certain Apple Computer Spokesman, very accomplished at storytelling), and even parents. Anyone who finds themselves in the position of speaking to a group, large or small, or even an individual whom they want to effectively get a message across to and then have the group or individual take specific action.
